My name is Roberta, and I'm the owner of Textile Heaven. I'm based in Evanston, Illinois, a nice town just to the north of Chicago along Lake Michigan. I have been sewing since I was quite small. I studied fashion design after I graduated high school, but ended up going into an entirely different direction and started a career as a CPA after graduating from college with a degree in accounting. Although I built a successful accounting practice, I couldn't seem to shake my interest in sewing.

Away from home on my first auditing job, I made four simple tied comforters for holiday gifts in my hotel room during the evenings. I continued to sew throughout the years. After many years in practice, I sold my accounting business. Still I sewed. I made my first real quilt in 1988, just after my daughter was born. By the time my son was born two years later, the quilting bug had hit me hard.

Over the years, I have made a lot of clothing, quilts and wearable art projects. In 2003 I tried out a Gammill Long Arm Quilting machine, and was immediately hooked. It took a year to find a good spot for this huge machine (the table is 12 feet long), but in November of 2004 I finally made the purchase and proceeded to make many quilts for friends, family and charity. Although I sew the quilts together with a regular sewing machine, this machine allows me to add a hand-guided quilting design that keeps all the layers of your quilt stitched together beautifully.

I now offer my sewing and quilting skills to you. I hope you will spend some time exploring this website and thinking about the ways in which I can help you to preserve your special memories. I am interested in keeping my business small and personal, so please contact me any time.
